Those who want to be led by God’s Spirit to live uprightly will always meet intense opposition, and ironically, it will sometimes be disguised as defending Godly precepts by some within their community. Jeremiah’s enemies wanted to use his own words to trap and destroy him (Jeremiah 18:18), prefiguring the many times the Pharisees and Scribes tried to trap Jesus. Notably, Christ warned His followers that they should expect to be hated because He was hated.
Sadly, Scripture will always be twisted as a cover for those who are actually working against God’s kingdom, just as Satan used it while tempting Jesus in the desert. However, God’s Word is also the spiritual sword that will discern and expose the lies of all the wolves that are in sheep’s clothing. The scripture verses culled below from Psalm 7 are fit to be used by someone who has been slandered unfairly.
“O Lord my God, in You I have taken refuge; Save me from all those who pursue me, and deliver me. 6 Arise, O Lord, in Your anger; Lift up Yourself against the rage of my adversaries, and arouse Yourself [j]for me; You have appointed judgment.
8 The Lord judges the peoples; l]Vindicate me, O Lord, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me.9 O let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; For the righteous God tries the hearts and [m]minds.
10 My shield is [n]with God, who saves the upright in heart. 11 God is a righteous judge, and a God who has indignation every day.17 I will give thanks to the Lord according to His righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.“
May the application of God’s Word be a healing balm and shield of protection on the wounds caused by slander in every believer’s life. Amen.
