Lent Day 31: Searching for Hidden Treasure

If I have any regret about my faith walk, it is the fact that I did not discover the hidden treasures in God’s word when I was much younger. What a treasure-trove of hidden knowledge, wisdom, power and influence is available to he who searches and studies God’s word diligently.

To search scripture goes beyond reading it. Treasures are never in plain sight and the treasures in God’s word are not on the surface. There are many scholars of scripture who have not experienced the power of scripture. They know the word by heart but it is not ruling their souls, it has not found a kingdom in their heart. If The Word does not grow roots in the heart, there can be no quality fruits on the exterior. The quality of our fruit-bearing has a direct proportion to the depth of the roots of The Word in our hearts. When the Word is deeply rooted, we are quick to converse with it, consult with it and conform to it.

As with all treasure hunts, a knowledgeable guide is indispensable. God’s Spirit is the guide to His Hidden treasures. Ask – the Holy Spirit for insight to understand God’s mind about His Word, what He really wants us to grasp from it-and you shall surely receive secrets that God shares with His friends (Psalm 25:14). Seek – Godly wisdom to attend to any situation you can think of- and you shall find scriptures that have corresponding life application. Knock – on the door of The Word that became flesh- Jesus Himself, and let him welcome you into the deepest recesses of His Word.

May we learn to daily ask, seek, and knock so as to discover hidden benefits that are lying in wait for us.
