The disciples were understandably confused when their Master told them He would be pulling a Houdini on them. Despite His multiple attempts to explain His upcoming death and resurrection to them, they still did not get it.
16 “A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father.”17 Then some of His disciples said among themselves, “What is this that He says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because I go to the Father’?” 18 They said therefore, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is saying. Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him, and He said to them, “Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’? John 16:16-18
We only get it now because we are in present – day, so our mourning today is short and filled with joyful hope for tomorrow.
However, right now there are many whose lives have been upended by this cruel pandemic, whose faith have been shaken, as prayers for loved ones to recover did not seem to have been heard. There are many in an extended period of mourning, wondering if joy will come after sorrow, wondering if they will ever truly be with their deceased loved ones again as promised in scripture.
For them we pray, that in just a little while, they may receive special revelations of the risen Christ in their hearts so that their long dark night of sorrow may be instantaneously filled with the bright shining light of a joyous encounter with Christ. May the Sun of Righteousness who rises with healing under His wings, mend all broken hearts and spirits that have waited upon Him. May He also reward all who turned their hearts back to Him and denied themselves during this Lenten season with divine visitations of spiritual gladness and peace.
May the joy of the risen Christ remain our permanent source of strength through thick and thin. Amen.
