- You have no plans to humble your heart
- You have no plans to be introspective or remorseful for wrongdoings
- You have no intention of giving up the sins you are aware of
- You tend to boast about how difficult or severe your fast is
- You will submit to your fleshly inclinations while fasting
- You don’t care about looking for opportunities to show mercy to others
- You think God will certainly appreciate your sacrifice
- You think you will immediately be delivered from all your troubles
- You have no plan to ask God what is acceptable to Him from your perspective.
Isaiah 58: 1-12.
Fasting is an affliction of the soul, not the body. May the Holy Spirit enlighten us so we that we see ourselves as God sees us. May He then give us the grace to carry out a fasting that is unique to each person, which will be acceptable to God.
