If anyone has recently wondered what our world is turning into, may I suggest a checklist based on the Word of God below? Does any of this sound familiar?
2 Timothy 3 New King James Version (NKJV)
Perilous Times and Perilous Men
3 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
- People loving themselves: aka self-centered, selfish. Self gratification above Christian charity. Loving one’s flesh life more than one’s spiritual life. Prioritizing the former above the latter, satisfying fleshly desires instead of pleasing God.
- People loving money: Having money is not the bad thing, loving it excessively and making an idol of it or the pursuit of it is the issue.
- Boasters: Comes from the lack of understanding that we are caretakers of all our blessings and talents and must someday give an account of their use to the Giver of all good things.
- Proud: Pride is the root of every sinful choice we make. We elevate our desires above what our Creator desires for us as laid down in His Word. It is what turned Lucifer into God’s enemy and it got him banished from heaven.
- Blasphemers: Insults to God and His holy name becoming common as unbelievers try to persuade more people, especially our young ones, to join their unholy fold.
- Disobedient to Parents: Flouting the only commandment with a promise of long life is so common place now. Any who can treat their parent badly can treat anyone badly.
- Unthankful: When men do not recognize God as the ultimate Source or Facilitator of their gifts, talents or achievements, they are not able to be thankful to Him. Neither are they capable of being thankful to their fellow-men.
- Unholy: When people believe seeking holiness is over-rated and there is no point trying to be.
- Unloving: Love is the ultimate message of Christ because it is the language and currency of the Heaven that every Christian desires to end up in. The Holy Spirit enables this virtue. (And every other virtue for that matter!)
- Unforgiving: If only Christ could reveal to us every night before we sleep how He holds our sinful thoughts, words and actions against us unless we forgive those who offend us.
