It is interesting to note how many times the persecutors of Jesus had wanted to seize him and kill him before the appointed time. Each time they were restrained, either by the fear of the crowds that accompanied Him or by an invisible power. (Luke 4:28-30; John 8:57-59; John 10:39; John 7:30) His hour had not yet come.
It is a good thing to remember this when we begin to fear the unknown or fear the creatures of God. God is God. He made the heavens and the earth and all they contain (Ps.24:1; 146:6; Nehemiah 9:6). He holds the mountains in their places and limits the roar of the oceans (Ps.95:4; Amos 4:13). The demons know and acknowledge Him and tremble before Him (Lk.4:41; James 2:19; Mark 3:11 etc). God is God. Period.
His hour had not yet come. Likewise for us men, the time of our departure from this world is set by and known only to God. It is information that cannot be known by the smartest physicians or most wicked fiends. It is information that confirms His supremacy over all that He made and holds in place. Our enemies cannot hasten it, and our loved ones cannot extend it.
Our times are in His hands. It is for this reason that I often wonder how people cannot but have a reverent fear of such a powerful and awesome God??
