Personalized Psalms of Protection: Psalm 3 Scripture Prayer

As Followers of Jesus, we are privileged to follow His example of rebuking the enemy of our souls with scripture.

Psalm 3:(Morning Prayer of Trust in God) Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son
O LORD, how my adversaries have increased! Many are rising up against me. 2 Many are saying [b]of my soul, “There is no [c]deliverance for him in God.” [d]Selah. 3 But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head. 4 I was crying to the LORD with my voice, And He answered me from His holy [e]mountain. Selah. 5 [f]I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustains me. 6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me round about. 7 Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God! For You [g]have smitten all my enemies on the [h]cheek; You [i]have shattered the teeth of the wicked. 8 [j]Salvation belongs to the LORD; Your blessing [k]be upon Your people! Selah.

Father, I come in the name of your Son Jesus to cry for your help. You alone see the hearts of the many who have risen against me, jeering at me and mocking my trust in You. In their ignorance of your tender mercies and preserving graces given through Jesus, they brag that you have forsaken me, and pray for my utter humiliation.

But I know who I am in You, and I recall your many victories on my behalf. I confidently assert that you are the one who protects me all around like a shield against seen and unseen foes in every trial. You are my strong tower and I glory in your strength, my cry to you through Jesus assures me of an answer of peace. I will not be bowed down in any affliction, be it sorrow, sickness, shame, defeat or lowliness.

I do not trust you only when everything is going well. I walk by faith in your all-powerful might and not by the sight of enemies that tremble in your presence. It is this faith that your Spirit has stirred in me and the assurance that you never slumber nor sleep that enables me to be at peace while resting or working in the midst of countless enemies and tribulations.

You are my God and my Father, adopting me as your daughter/son because of the covenant of salvation you established through Jesus. In your mercy, defend me and mine as any ordinary father would, how much more a Father for whom the earth is a footstool. Disarm my enemies and let them understand your omnipotence by destroying whatever tools they use to plot their wickedness against me.

Pour out your blessing O Lord upon all who have accepted your Son as Savior. Bless us and all that we stand for, our loved ones, our comforts and trials, the work of our hands and the walk of our feet. In the name of the same Jesus. Amen.
